Nervous Patients
Our Nervous Patient Programme, here at Shine Dental
At Shine Dental, we fully understand how daunting the experience of a trip to the Dentist can seem, especially to someone who has had a previous bad experience or has not visited for years. We believe that the best treatment for an anxious patient is kindness and consideration. We do all that we can to take great care to ensure a stress and pain free visit to us at the practice.
We pride ourselves on providing an environment that is calm and relaxing and as far from the traditional perception of a dentist's surgery as possible. You will be greeted by our friendly reception team and offered a choice of refreshments whilst you sit and unwind.
Our main approach throughout the whole of the practice is 'gentle'. From your chat with your very own care co-ordinator Jayne, to your time in the dentist chair - we can promise that every step of your journey with us will be taken at your own pace. We believe communication is the key to the first step in overcoming your anxieties. We can guarantee that you will leave Shine Dental feeling important and valued. Your trip to us is all about YOU, how you feel and what we can do to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
Our aim is to address your dental concerns so that we can make sure every visit to us is personalised specifically to you and your very own requirements;
-Is there a piece of music or a radio station that helps you relax?
-Do you have a favourite TV programme in mind that you would like to watch during your treatment?
-Would you like a chat before going ahead with the treatment?
-Do you understand every aspect of the treatment?
-Would you like a warm blanket during your treatment?
-Would you like a pillow to support your neck during treatment?
-Do you feel too warm or too cold?
If there is anything else you can think of to make your visit to us as comfortable as possible; just let your care co-ordinator know. We will do our very best to try to accommodate individual requests and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Our Nervous Patient Success Stories
"I knew I needed a dental check up but had been put off going, due to previous visits with uncaring, overzelous dentists who appeared less interested in making me feel relaxed and more interested in getting the job done and moving on to the next patient. So my first visit to Shine Dental practice was just like any other, full of dread and fear of what I would have to endure.
The reception area was very modern and had a lovely aroma of candles instead of the usual antiseptic smell that most dentists have, this accompanied by a very friendly and chatty receptionist instantly made me feel at ease.
The dental nurse called me into the treatment room and my fear slowly crept back in, I'm glad to say not for long. After a few visits with the wonderful Dee and her team I'm glad to say I'm almost cured of my dental phobia.
We are due to emigrate later this year to the US and I hope I find another dentist with the same attitude. I can truly say it was a pleasant experience and my teeth look and feel wonderful.
In summary:
Relaxed, friendly atmosphere, excellent staff and a truly wonderful dentist with a gift to relax and put people at ease.
Thank you so much, Shine Dental. Please move to the US!

Dear Dr Patel, I am just writing this short note to say thankyou to both yourself and your dental nurse. On Friday 30th April you extracted a front tooth for me. I was really frightened and got very worked up about it. I would like to thank you for your skill and professionalism as you assured me I wouldn't feel any pain. You were right - I didn't!
I would also like to thank you both for your sensitivity to my fears and your care and concern and especially your re-assurance. You helped calm me down. Whilst obviously I can't say it was a pleasant experience, I really appreciated the way you dealt with the whole procedure.
I have never written to thank a dentist before, but on this occasion I felt the level of care was so good that I had to write to express my gratitude.
Yours Sincerely, Pauline Hargreaves
