• Shine Dental

This policy has been created based on multiple updated sources from within the dental and medical professions and the government.

It outlines modifications to our normal procedures that we intend to implement during the phased re-opening of our Clinics from 8th June 2020.

It is not known at this time whether these procedures are temporary or whether they will become a permanent feature of the way dental practices must be run to ensure patient and staff safety in the future.

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic is still being evaluated and studied and policies and recommendations are likely to change in line with new scientific evidence over time. We would like to thank all of our patients for their patience and forbearance during the period of temporary practice closure and for their understanding and cooperation whilst we implement new measures at the practice.

We will of course be providing dental care to all of our patients in the safest possible environment. We greatly appreciate your assistance with any new or modified procedures at the practice.

Although dental surgeries have been asked to re-open on Monday 8th June, normal service as we know it will not resume unfortunately. The reopening of our clinic Will be phased.

We need to take into account the urgency of need so it will only be absolute emergencies that will be seen at practice face to face for the time being and not routine non urgent care in the current situation.

Here at Shine Dental, we have been working hard over recent weeks putting things into place such as screens on reception, robust protocols and social distancing signage as well as sourcing the correct PPE.

Progression towards resuming our usual full range of routine dental care will be phased and risk managed carefully to ensure the safety of all our patients and staff.

Be assured we will be keeping everyone informed and we look forward to welcoming all our lovely patients back, we have all missed you!

We will carry out a pre-attendance assessment via telephone. When one of our friendly receptionists gives you a call, you will be asked a series of questions. New protocols for the practice will be discussed with you in detail. We will discuss costs with you and take the payment prior to your visit over the phone wherever possible. This initial consultation will include a COVID-19 assessment. If we feel that you are at risk of having possibly been infected, even if you are asymptomatic, we will respectfully request for you to delay booking any appointments with us for at least one month.

Before you leave for your appointment we ask that you have used the lavatory and only bring essential items with you. It is important that you don’t bring a large number, if any, belongings with you to the practice.

We ask that attendance to the practice is on your own unless you absolutely require assistance. One escort can attend the practice with you but this must be discussed with the receptionist prior to the appointment as your escort will be subject to a COVID-19 screening.

When you arrive at the practice, the door will be locked so please call us to let us know that you have arrived, if we aren’t ready, then please wait in your car and we will call you when the surgery is ready for you. You will be greeted at the door by a member of staff wearing PPE who will invite you into the clinic and repeat the COVID-19 screening and ask that you place any belongings in the sealed container provided. We will then ask you to sanitise your hands and escort you to the treatment room where you will be greeted by your dentist and assisting nurse.

Our team have spent time critically looking at every aspect of the practice with a view to removing all non-essential items.

You will find that the practice may appear to be quite bare when you attend.

All clinical and common areas including door handles and surfaces will be regularly disinfected in addition to our normal surface cleaning protocols between patients.

We will be providing a buffer period between patients to allow additional time for additional decontamination procedures, allow for any treatment overruns and allow preparation time for the next patient so that they do not need to wait in the reception area.

When you enter the treatment room you will see the dentist and the nurse wearing full PPE. Please do not be alarmed, this is for the safety of you as well as ourselves. All dental staff will be using personal protective equipment in line with current recommendations and evidence. We apologise in advance for the necessary reduction in social interaction that this will necessitate. Whilst our masks may make us appear impersonal and distant, please be assured we are still the same friendly team underneath it all!

Once your treatment is complete, you will be escorted out of the surgery where there will be a nurse to guide you out of the building. On leaving the surgery you will be asked to sanitise your hands following the flow chart displayed and collect your belongings. Any follow up conversations will be done via phone call to minimise your time in the clinic.

This policy will be constantly reviewed and updated as necessitated by circumstances over time.
