Composite bonding is one of the easiest and least invasive ways to enhance your smile.

Our skilled team of cosmetically-minded dentists can improve mishappen, stained, and chipped teeth in just a single appointment with composite bonding.

Treatment Overview

Composite bonding is the process of applying layers of composite resin to a tooth. Teeth suitable for composite bonding are:

  • Discoloured teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Gapped teeth (small gaps)

How It Works

Your dentist will examine your teeth, looking out for any signs of decay or gum disease (which will require attention before any cosmetic work can be undertaken).

They will then use composite resins matched to your tooth shade to aesthetically build up your tooth. These resins are carefully applied very gradually, allowing your dentist to work thoroughly to address every small detail that will make the end result look so natural.

The resins are hardened using a UV curing light. The tooth is then polished.

Advantages of Composite Bonding

  • Fast treatment to undergo.
  • Takes just 1 appointment.
  • No drilling or anaesthetic (in most cases).
  • No need to alter existing natural tooth structure (as is the case with veneers).
  • Reversible process.

FAQs

1. HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS OF COMPOSITE BONDING LAST FOR?

Typically, composite bonding lasts for between 3 to 7 years. The composite layers of resin adhered to your teeth will retain their shade and shape, so long as you take good care of your teeth. Avoid teeth-staining food and drink, and biting on foreign objects that risk chipping the resins.

2. CAN COMPOSITE BONDING BE USED ON ALL OF MY TEETH?

Composite bonding is most effective when used on the top teeth most visible when you smile. Your dentist can perform what’s known as a “smile makeover” to enhance several teeth, improving their collective symmetry and width-to-length ratio.

3. ARE VENEERS A BETTER OPTION THAN COMPOSITE BONDING FOR ENHANCING MY SMILE?

Veneers are considered a longer-term alternative to composite bonding, typically lasting for 10+ years. However, the process requires multiple appointments, and the removal of some of your own natural tooth structure. Composite bonding is a favourable option for patients looking for a simple and minimally-invasive cosmetic solution.
