If you are struggling with a severe toothache, a broken tooth, or sudden oral discomfort, the team at Shine Dental is here to help.
Dental emergencies can be stressful, painful, and disruptive. We prioritise fast, compassionate, and effective emergency dental appointments to get you out of pain as quickly and safely as possible.
We offer same-day emergency dental appointments for a fixed fee of £150. This service is available to both registered and non-registered patients of all ages across Ripponden, Halifax, and the surrounding Calderdale areas.
When you visit us for an emergency appointment, our expert clinical team will conduct a thorough assessment, diagnose your issue, discuss immediate treatment options, and deliver essential care to alleviate your discomfort.
What Is Included in Your Same-Day Emergency Appointment?
Our goal during an emergency visit is to locate the source of your pain, stabilise the condition, and prevent further damage.
Covered Services (£150 Fixed Fee): Your emergency appointment fee covers diagnosis, pain relief, and immediate stabilisation for issues such as:
- Severe Toothache: Immediate assessment and localised relief for severe or throbbing dental pain.
- Chipped, Cracked, or Broken Teeth: Smoothing sharp edges or applying temporary restorations to protect exposed nerves.
- Lost or Broken Crowns & Fillings: Temporary recementing or placing protective dressings over damaged teeth.
- Dental Abscesses & Facial Swellings: Diagnosis, emergency drainage where appropriate, and managing acute infections.
- Dental Trauma & Injuries: Immediate care following physical impact or accidents affecting your teeth or gums.
- Antibiotic Prescriptions: Provision of antibiotic cover when clinically necessary to manage severe bacterial infections.
- First-Stage Root Canal Therapy: Placing an emergency root canal dressing on your first visit to stop nerve pain.
- Simple Extractions: Removing severely compromised or unsavable teeth when simple removal is required for pain relief.
What Is Not Covered;
To ensure complete transparency, complex restorative procedures or long-term laboratory-made treatments are not included in the £150 emergency fee. These can be quoted and scheduled separately following your emergency stabilisation:
- Surgical extractions (requiring bone removal or complex flap surgery)
- Permanent final restorations (such as permanent crowns, bridges, or permanent fillings)
- Laboratory-made dental devices (dentures, night guards, or lab-fabricated veneers)
- Complex wisdom tooth extractions
What to Expect During Your Emergency Visit;
We understand that visiting the dentist during a painful emergency can cause anxiety. Our team works hard to provide a calm, reassuring environment from the moment you call us.
- Initial Contact: Call our reception team directly at 01422 824 875. We will ask a few quick questions to assess your symptoms and book you into our next available same-day slot.
- Clinical Diagnosis: Your dentist will carry out a gentle exam, which may include digital dental X-rays to locate hidden infections, fractures, or nerve damage.
- Treatment & Stabilisation: We discuss our findings with you and perform the necessary immediate treatment (such as placing a dressing, prescribing antibiotics, or repairing a filling) to bring you fast relief.
- Follow-Up Planning: Before you leave, we provide clear aftercare advice and outline any permanent, long-term treatments you may need once the immediate emergency is resolved.
Aftercare & Guidance Following Emergency Dental Treatment
Proper care after your emergency visit ensures quick healing and prevents secondary complications.
- Managing Mild Discomfort: Over-the-counter painkillers (such as ibuprofen or paracetamol) can help manage residual soreness once local anaesthetic wears off. Always follow dosage instructions or advice provided by your dentist.
- Eating & Drinking: If you have received local anaesthesia, avoid hot drinks and chewing on the treated side until feeling has completely returned to avoid accidental cheek or tongue biting.
- Caring for Temporary Dressings: If a temporary filling or root canal dressing was placed, avoid chewing hard or sticky foods on that tooth until your permanent restoration is fitted.
- Oral Hygiene: Continue gentle brushing around the affected area, and use a warm salt-water mouth rinse 2–3 times daily to keep the site clean and assist healing.
